Day care isn’t a sustainable solution
Childcare centres are the petrol stations of the 21st century, and much like petrol, the childcare sector is not a sustainable solution to our collective issues. Frankly, childcare is a result of a much larger social and economic problems in our society, if we fix these issues we mostly eliminate the need for childcare right?
Kids need to be messy
Yes I know its a pain. Never the less its important for their development. Here’s some easy(ish) answers for a very messy problem.
We should all follow Finland
If Finland’s education system is one of the best in the world, Why aren’t more countries following along. This one took a little more research into a completely foreign concept of trusting the professional. I think the world could learn a lesson or two.
Sleepy heads
We all need sleep, some of us more than others. Studies show that nap time is a surprisingly important part of early childhood development. So why do we abandon the idea the second it gets too hard.
The ‘instant gratification’ drive
Having a child is not always about doing everything for them. Sometimes as parents and educators we have to let go in a way that supports them. It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey of getting there.
Equally vs equity.
Equal treatment of children is fundamentally unfair. There comes a point where equal treatment of children becomes abusive, so why do educators priotise treating children equally?
Childcare is designed to appease parents
No, really. I know but that choice as made by the childcare companies has put unnecessary pressure on the educators who deal with enough as is. Nor do any of these ‘fancy’ little perks justify the costs involved in sending your child to kindy.
Educators get paid to…
Do far less than what is actually expected of them. Here’s the list of what we are paid to do vs what we are expected to do, you’ll be surprised how much work educators do in there personal time. would this be acceptable in your workplace?
The kids are never the problem
No, really. The kids are never the problem, let’s look at the root cause of the issues we face in our kids rather than the easy target.
Interacting with children sometimes means…
Explaining complex topics in an honest factual way, and doing anything else can be harmful to your child. Let’s look at why that can be the case and how to put a complicated conversation into words that they can understand.
How to: Respect
Respect goes both ways, so how do you gain your child’s respect and get your family to respect your parenting choices.
